AT BIRKS FOR FALL AND HOLIDAY 2003:

A Fresh Interpretation and a Sense of Change in Fine Jewellery

Grounded in the company’s impeccable standards of quality and craftsmanship, Birks takes flight this season with fashion-forward new designs in pearl, diamond, gemstone, gold and silver jewellery.  There’s an exuberance to fine jewellery design at Birks now – the company known for classics is exploring modern interpretations of traditional themes. Youthful in attitude, Birks’ new jewellery design reflects current international trends without losing the timeless quality that fine jewellery requires.

Birks Pearls

Birks has become synonymous with the highest quality pearls used in the most elegant designs.  Keshi pearls, irregularly shaped because of the way the pearl is formed within the oyster, are at the forefront of pearl fashion, and lead the way within Birks’ pearl collection. The collection includes black and white pearl drop earrings, and dramatic strands of pearls in varied sizes and colours, including single and double strands and multi-strand twists.  A highlight of the collection is a necklace of three strands of naturally hued white, golden and black Tahitian pearls from the waters of Indonesia, the Australian South Seas and Tahiti. Finding the perfect pearls and assembling three complimentary strands of this quality and size is a rare and wonderful experience.

The White Diamonds

Birks takes diamond jewellery design to the next level, without sacrificing the classic foundation that lovers of diamond jewellery demand.  Birks blends current fashion trends with fine jewellery, with a white diamond collection led by elegant diamond chandelier earrings. This season also includes a stunning platinum emerald-cut and round-cut diamond necklace with 119 emerald-cut diamonds and 238 round-cut diamonds totaling over 50 carats.

The Colour Diamonds

Highly desirable and rarely available, naturally coloured diamonds are increasingly popular today. Birks is presenting both pink and yellow diamonds this season.  Highlights include fancy yellow diamond swirl earrings, held by delicate threads of platinum encrusted with white diamonds that link and encircle the yellow diamonds. Also of note is a fancy yellow long noble-cut diamond necklace, with the over 1.60-carat weight yellow diamond delicately suspended on a simple platinum chain.

The Gemstones

Birks has always excelled at creating exquisite jewellery using rare and exotic gemstones. This season, Birks brings higher fashion design concepts to bear with remarkable results. Rare gemstone rings are this collection’s focus, an exceptional blue/green tourmaline and diamond ring among them. This oversized tourmaline features a natural wave of colour spectrum from azure blue to forest green. Ten round and pear shaped diamonds surround this exceptional stone.

Gold Adventures

There’s a distinctly international quality to Birks gold jewellery, with an emphasis on current – yet enduring – design. Among a number of intriguing necklaces in Birks gold jewellery collection is a yellow quartz and gold necklace, with faceted yellow gold quartz beans alternating with 18k yellow gold beans. Matching drop earrings and an oversized ring are available as well.

The Links

Link necklaces in gold and silver are given fresh takes this season at Birks. A variety of lengths and finishes create an exciting collection that can be worn at the neck, the wrist, even the waist. Highlights include an 18k gold filigree charm bracelet, with each 18k gold charm worked by hand in a centuries-old tradition of filigree wirework.

Birks Pebble Collection

Inspired by a one-of-a-kind necklace created in Birks Design Studio to commemorate a special exhibit at the Musée de la civilisation, Birks Pebble Collection has come to represent some of the best of Birks design in its elegant, organic simplicity and youthful appeal. Inspired by the naturally softened shape of river rocks, Birks Pebble jewellery strikes an appealingly perfect note between primitive and refined. Among the many Pebble pieces available in both gold and silver is a Pebble pendant on a multi-strand cord.
